Color me confused. There was this big special on Christina Aguilera the other day (which I only watched to see the bits they showed of the "Dirrty" and "Lady Marmalade" videos, really..), and it turns out her big break was with the song "Reflection" from the "Mulan" soundtrack. The reason she was selected for this honor by Disney was because she could hit "The Note"- which has escaped my sieve of a brain at the moment, but I believe it was E over C. Anyway, when they showed her (repeatedly) singing The Note, and having commentators going on and on about how impressive it was that she could hit The Note, and how it proved she was truly talented, I couldn't figure out which note I was supposed to be impressed by. So I.. uhh.. got my hands on the song, and I *still* can't figure it out. To be fair, I do have a bunch of years of chorus behind me, and I'm no slacker in the singing department (thought by no means a huge talent), but *I* can sing every note of this song without even straining. And I'm recovering from strep.

Is this as big a deal as they're making it? Can today's pop stars really not hit these notes? Enlighten me, oh wise ones. ;)

What was really funny was they were showing the score, and The Note was supposedly still *on* the staff. I've had to hit notes for chorus that weren't, which only added to my confuzzlement.
